The Department of Oil and Gas Processing Technology was established in the 2001–2002 academic year on the basis of Bukhara OO and YeSTI. The purpose of establishing the Department in this region was to provide qualified specialists for the Bukhara Oil Refinery, Mubarek Gas Processing Plant, the Gazli Oil and Gas Production Department, and other related enterprises. Initially, the Department was headed by Candidate of Chemical Sciences O.M. Mardonov. From 2002 to 2009, the Department was led by Candidate of Technical Sciences Q.K. Jumaev. From 2009 to 2011, the Department was headed by Candidate of Chemical Sciences J.A. Qalandarov.
In accordance with Resolution No. PQ-1954 dated April 15, 2013, “On the Establishment of the Bukhara Institute of Engineering and Technology,” the Department of Oil and Gas Processing Technology and the Department of Oil and Gas Engineering were merged to form the Department of Oil and Gas Chemical Industry Technology. From that date until January 2, 2014, the Department was headed by Candidate of Technical Sciences B.Z. Adizov. From January 2, 2014, to July 20, 2014, Candidate of Chemical Sciences Q.Q. Sharipov served as Acting Head of the Department. From July 20, 2014, to July 10, 2019, the Department was headed by Professor G.R. Bozorov.
On July 10, 2019, in accordance with the new organizational structure of the Bukhara Institute of Engineering and Technology approved by the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Specialized Education of the Republic of Uzbekistan, three departments — Oil Refining Technology, Chemical Processing of Gas Technology, and Oil and Gas Engineering — were established on the basis of the Department of Oil and Gas Chemical Industry Technology. From 2020 to January 28, 2022, the Department was headed by Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Pedagogical Sciences A.A. Alimov, and from 2023 to 2025 by Candidate of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor Sh.N. Ataullayev.
In accordance with Resolution No. PQ-22 of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan dated January 24, 2025, “On the Establishment of Bukhara State Technical University,” from April 10, 2025, the Department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences R.R. Hayitov. Since September 13, 2025, the Department has been headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor A.A. Ochilov.

In order to equip the laboratory rooms of “Scientific Research,” “Oil and Gas Engineering,” and “Oil and Gas Chemistry and Technology” with modern laboratory instruments and equipment, it has been agreed to implement joint projects between O‘zbekneftgaz JSC and Bukhara State Technical University with a total value of UZS 3.5884 billion. A contract was concluded between Bukhara State Technical University and Buxoro neftni qayta ishlash zavodi LLC with a total value of UZS 900 million and a validity period until the end of 2024. As of today, the full amount of UZS 900 million has been transferred by the enterprise. Additionally, another contract was signed between Bukhara State Technical University and Buxoro neftni qayta ishlash zavodi LLC with a total value of UZS 950 million, valid until the end of 2025. Furthermore, Sho‘rtan gaz kimyo majmuasi LLC has provided five pieces of equipment that are currently not in use at their facility.
In order to purchase modern laboratory equipment and instruments for three laboratory rooms of the department’s IMM, a list of required laboratory equipment has been developed. Proposals from companies of the Russian Federation, the German-Uzbek joint venture Precision Technology LLC, and Sharif University of Technology (Iran) have been reviewed. Negotiations are currently underway with Sharif University of Technology for the procurement of 19 types of laboratory equipment with a total value of USD 186,000. Furthermore, it is planned to formalize contracts between Bukhara State Technical University and the production enterprises of O‘zbekneftgaz JSC for the joint implementation of five scientific projects during 2024–2026, with a total value of UZS 5.4 billion.
Draft contracts have been submitted as follows:
1 project worth UZS 2 billion to Muborak Oil and Gas Production Department;
3 projects worth UZS 2 billion 55 million to Gazli Oil and Gas Production Department;
A contract worth UZS 850 million with Buxoro neftni qayta ishlash zavodi LLC.
Scientific research activities carried out at the Department of Oil and Gas Processing Technology of Bukhara State Technical University. At Bukhara State Technical University, the Scientific Council No. DSc.03/28.02.2022.T.101.01, which awards academic degrees in the specialties 02.00.08 – Oil and Gas Chemistry and Technology and 02.00.11 – Colloid and Membrane Chemistry, is operating effectively. Dissertation (PhD/DSc) defense performance indicators of the Department for 2025 at Bukhara State Technical University On April 26, 2025, Toshboyev Sardor O‘ktam o‘g‘li, an independent researcher of the Department of Oil and Gas Processing Technology at Bukhara State Technical University, successfully defended his dissertation entitled “Development and Technology of a Foam Suppressant Based on Oil and Gas Waste” in the specialty 02.00.11 – Colloid and Membrane Chemistry (Technical Sciences). He was awarded the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) on June 13, 2025 (Diploma No. 01№017877). On August 20, 2025, Hojiyeva Ruxsora Baxtiyorovna, Senior Lecturer of the same department, successfully defended her dissertation entitled “Development of the Scientific and Technological Basis for Obtaining Fuel Distillates from Rubber and Plastic Waste” in the specialty 02.00.08 – Oil and Gas Chemistry and Technology (Technical Sciences). She received her PhD diploma on October 31, 2025 (Diploma No. 01№020097). On December 25, 2025, the doctoral student Axmedova Shaxnoza Utkirovna defended her dissertation entitled “Development of an Effective Absorbent Composition for Gas Purification from Acidic Components” in the specialty 02.00.08 – Oil and Gas Chemistry and Technology (Technical Sciences) for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). On December 25, 2025, Xamidov Dilshodjon G‘aniyevich defended his dissertation entitled “Technology for Obtaining Base Oil for Plastic Lubricants from Local Waste” in the specialty 02.00.08 – Oil and Gas Chemistry and Technology (Technical Sciences) for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). On December 26, 2025, Hotamov Qobul Shirinboy o‘g‘li defended his dissertation entitled “Development of Technology for Regeneration of Used Hydraulic Oil Using Navbahor Bentonite” in the specialty 02.00.08 – Oil and Gas Chemistry and Technology (Technical Sciences) for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). On December 26, 2025, To‘xtayev Nozim Nazir o‘g‘li defended his dissertation entitled “Development of Technology for Producing Anti-Detonation Compositions Based on Ethers and Their Compounding with Motor Gasolines” in the specialty 02.00.08 – Oil and Gas Chemistry and Technology (Technical Sciences) for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

International Relations and Cooperation of the Department of Oil and Gas Processing Technology at Bukhara State Technical University.

In order to ensure the implementation of the Memorandum signed between O‘zbekneftgaz JSC and SOCAR (State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan) in the field of personnel training, a cooperation agreement was signed between Bukhara State Technical University and Baku Higher Oil School to establish a joint Master’s degree program.
Based on the entrance examination results for the 2024/2025 academic year, 10 students were admitted. Seven students continued their studies, while three were dismissed due to family circumstances. From April 7 to May 30, 2025, classes were conducted in English by qualified professors of the University. On June 12–14, representatives of Baku Higher Oil School visited the University and delivered master classes and exam preparation guidance for the joint program students. On June 19–20, Aysel Rzayeva, Head of the Education Quality Department, and Guldana Khidoyatli, Vice-Rector for Strategic Development, administered first-semester examinations. Based on the results, all seven Master’s students were recommended to continue their studies at Baku Higher Oil School. The academic process in Azerbaijan will begin on September 15, 2025, and the students’ departure to Baku is scheduled for September 8, 2025.
Under the Erasmus+ project “101082221-UzMedEn – New Master’s Degree and Training Course Programs in Biomedical Engineering in Uzbekistan,” a lecturer of the department, G. Zaripov, successfully completed a traineeship from September 27 to October 15, 2024 at Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (VGTU), ranked among the TOP 1000 universities.
Cooperation agreements have also been signed with Atyrau Oil and Gas University, Ufa State Petroleum Technological University, and M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University to enhance professional development, internships, postgraduate and doctoral studies for the department’s academic staff.
In May 2025, representatives of Bukhara State Technical University—Hayitov Ruslan Rustamjonovich and Bozorov G‘ayrat Rashidovich—participated in the 33rd International Exhibition “Oil, Gas, Technologies” and the Oil-Gas-Chemical Industry Forum held in Ufa, Russian Federation, and improved their professional qualifications. From October 22 to November 4, 2024, senior researcher Ruslan Hayitov, Associate Professor G‘ayrat Bozorov, and doctoral student Maksim Tsukanov took part in a professional development course on “New Energy-Based Vehicles” at Hebei Vocational University of Technology and Engineering to study Chinese higher education teaching methodologies. Leading professors of the department—S.F. Fozilov, S.A. G‘aybullayev, B.Z. Sharipov, and M.Z. Komilov—delivered lectures and practical classes at the Department of “Technology of Inorganic and Petrochemical Production” of M. Auezov South Kazakhstan University within the framework of the academic mobility program.
Additionally, the above-mentioned professors actively participated in an international foresight session entitled “Implementation of the Concept for the Development of Technical Education: New Trends in Training Modern Engineering Personnel,” aimed at increasing student enrollment in oil and gas processing, enhancing competitiveness, and improving graduate employment monitoring.
